Lament for the Ego

There comes a day when you realize
you're not as great as you thought.
Multitudes of people are better than you.
There are better poets
better painters, better singers
better lovers and better deamers.
You will never be the best at anything
because no matter what people tell you
you are not as good as you seem
so you might as well cease to exist.
Give your body over to the earth
and rise like a ball of energy into the sky
letting yorself expand until you can't tell the difference
between the air and yourself.
Even then
don't stop to marvel at your genius
Look around you and know that every star
is a ball of energy just like you.
